A character's Armor can consist of an entire "suit" of Armor or the combination of various seperate pieces.  The Norman Calvery wore full chain with leggings, while an Ancient Greek Hoplite wore  breastplate, helmet and greaves.   Armor can be massed on top of itself but the MM and Perception Penalties are totaled up as well as the Defensive Value.  That way padding under Chain will defend against Impact blows better.  The varied DVs listed are adjusted for attack types.
